    Hi One & All

First a bit of history about the Robert E Peary, She was one of the fastest Liberty ship’s built, from laying the keel to launch was only FOUR day’s, she was named after the American explorer Robert E Peary, she first served in the Pacific then later served on the Atlantic runs, she was also off Omaha beach on “D” Day

Her day’s of service came to an end in 1963.

Well first there is no way that I could ever build mine in fours days, so hats off to the guys that did build her.

    Hi Fred,

I used to work in a ship yard for 25 years so i know a little about ship building.

To build the main hull and superstructure in four days is absolutely super human work.

Yes Martin that is some feat, according to the reference page it as set about because one of the other Ship yards had built one in ten days, when asked if they could build one faster, they replayed that it would have been eight days, had they not had to delay the build so that the President could attend the launching.

The average was 50 days, this is due to the amount of steel that was in stock and the capacity of the Ship yards.

I saw an interesting show on the liberty ships several years ago. They had one hell of a process set up where they had the components assembled in different parts of the shipyard then at the end they would assemble the parts together like building blocks.
